Is your business card a good salesman?
Does it shout at your client?
"HEY, PICK ME UP AND CONTACT MY OWNER!"
"HAAI, TEL MY OP EN BEL MY BAAS!."
Does your customer have a reason to pick up, look at and hold onto this important marketing tool?
As in any competitive market, the first goal of any of your marketing tools is not information, the first goal is to grab attention, and then provide information.
Business card designs are important. A well designed, professional looking full colour card is always picked up, remembered and will stand out between other cards.
Whether your design is unusual or conventional, it needs to contain useful information. If not, there's really no point for anyone to hold on to them.
Some organizations choose to include only a telephone number and maybe an email address on their cards, whilst others also put in a summary of what the organization does and even a list or key terms. Also remember, you can supply more information if you use the front and the back.
Your card should reflect your image, whether it be personal, a small business or in the corporate environment. You may prefer a straight forward design with a logo and contact information. If you're a creative person, you must show some of your personality on your card. In any of the professional industries, such as real estate, your photograph is appropriate and will definitely make you more memorable.
Your design should include all the information you want your clients to have, but do not let the card look like the fine print of a contract. It's small and you can't put all the information on it as you have on your advertising flyer.
It seems obvious, but often the business card is the first thing that small business owners start with, before they have a physical address, website or email address.
It can be tempting to go with just any printing company to get the printing out of the way, especially if you're constantly hiring new employees, or it's your nature to change things every so often. However, you need to resist this temptation. Low quality or unimaginative cards will not do you any favours in the long run. Once you have a template established, reprinting is pretty easy.
